With almost all consumerism comes the cost of packaging, whether this is the literal cost or the impact on the environment because of it. The extent of packaging and how many different types and choices that can be made when shopping are endless.
For example take luxury items such as chocolate and moisturizers which although not essential they seem to, in this day and age, have become necessities. With chocolate, the question of hygiene is raised as to the amount of packaging involved in its production and distribution, making sustainability in this field seem all the more challenging. With toiletries/moisturizers it is the issue of appeal, market competition and the latest trends. It is in this area of consumerism and production that vast changes can be made and for the better.
